I learned that firsthand in Special Operations.

There was a moment—on deployment—when my team commander pulled me aside and told me to stop being “the fun uncle.”

 He thought I needed to be more distant.
 More controlling.
 More… traditional.

But what he didn’t understand was this:

Teams don’t go to war for the guy barking orders.
They go to war for the one who’s in the trenches with them.

That lesson shaped how I lead my family, my companies, and my tribe today.
